Driving an organisational culture

“What is your organisational culture like?” I remember asking this question to a would-be employer; I found the response very interesting: “It is a good place to work in and we get to eat together”. Every business owner or employer would want to paint a good picture of the culture within; it is however only when inside an organisation that one can really tell what the culture is like. Every organisation no matter how large or small has a culture that makes its members behave in a certain way.

Organisational culture is very difficult to express distinctively. It includes such aspects as core values, beliefs, ethical standards, basic assumptions, attitudes, morals, activities, ceremonies, stories, practices, customs shared by members of an organisation. These elements give every organisation its unique feel; they define what is important to the organisation, how members of the organisation interact with each other, how they get things done and what they strive for. Organisational culture is seen as the social glue that binds members of an organisation together and it varies widely from one organisation to another.
