Laws have been in existence to regulate behaviour of individuals in society, since time immemorial. You can imagine the confusion that would reign, if what constitutes acceptable behaviour in a society is not defined.

When individuals come together to conduct business and incorporate a company with the motive of generating profits, they define how they will relate with each other and to some extent their dealings with outsiders, in the Memorandum and Articles of Associations.
